Inaugural Carrera de las Rosas a 5K Run, 1K Walk, and .5K Wheelchair Roll is more than a race, it is a community gathering rooted in movement, inclusion, and purpose. Held at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines, Illinois, this special event invites runners, walkers, wheelchair users, families, and supporters of all ages and abilities to come together for a meaningful day of wellness, solidarity, and celebration. Participants will experience an uplifting atmosphere that honors community, faith, culture, and the power of showing up for one another. Carrera is designed to be welcoming and family-friendly, offering a 5K race for those ready to challenge themselves, a 1K walk for individuals, families, elders, children for participants who prefer a shorter route, a Kid Run (ages 6-12) and a .5K wheelchair roll that intentionally centers disAbility inclusion and community participation. Whether you come to run, walk, roll, cheer, volunteer, or connect, Carrera de las Rosas is an opportunity to be part of something larger—an event that celebrates belonging, joy, and collective participation. Registrants will receive an inaugural t-shirt, a bib and while supplies last, an inaugural gift! Carrera registration opens at 8:00 a.m. The 5k starts at 9:00 a.m. and the 1k walk is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Kid Run at 11am and the .5k wheelchair roll at 11:30 a.m. Each in-person participant receives a medal and a rose upon completing their run, walk, or stroll. This rose is an intentional act of cultural and spiritual significance: participants are invited to lay their rose before Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe to honor their personal intention—whether gratitude, remembrance, healing, advocacy, or a prayer for community strength. We have timed it so participant completion is before noon for the Rosary. We believe that one of the defining features of the Carrera de las Rosas is the virtual companion runner tradition, where every participant is encouraged to symbolically run
