The Great American 5k

The Great American 5K returns on Sunday, July 4, 2027, after a tremendous inaugural event that sold out and welcomed runners from across the United States—and even internationally. We can't think of a better way to begin Independence Day than with a fast, family-friendly 5K celebrating community, patriotism, and giving back. The course winds through the Linn Creek Industrial Park, chosen for its safe, relatively flat layout that's perfect for runners, walkers, families, and those pushing strollers. Whether you're chasing a personal record, enjoying a holiday walk with friends, or introducing your kids to their first race, you'll feel right at home. Participants can once again look forward to premium race swag, a custom finisher medal, and an energetic race-day atmosphere that quickly made the Great American 5K a new Lake-area tradition. With patriotic music, American flags lining the course, and hundreds of participants dressed in red, white, and blue, there's no better way to kick off your Fourth of July celebration. Even better, every step you take supports a worthy cause. Proceeds from the Great American 5K benefit Heroes Outreach, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing suicide among military veterans and first responders by combating isolation and rebuilding the sense of camaraderie many experience after leaving military or emergency service. Heroes Outreach accomplishes this through regular community gatherings where veterans and first responders can connect, build friendships, and support one another in a welcoming environment. Their goal is to ensure that no hero has to face life's challenges alone.
